Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground beef
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp dried thyme or 1 tsp fresh thyme
1/3 cup beef broth
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 cups shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
1 egg + 1 tbsp water (egg wash)
Fresh parsley or fried onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • In a large skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook over medium-low for 20–25 minutes, stirring often, until caramelized.

  • Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

  • Stir in garlic, thyme, broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer 5 minutes.

  • Remove from heat and mix in half the shredded cheese.

  • Press one can of crescent dough into the baking dish to form a bottom crust.

  • Spread beef filling over dough, then top with remaining cheese.

  • Cover with second can of dough. Press edges to seal and brush with egg wash.

  • Bake 22–25 minutes or until golden. Let rest before serving.
