This homemade sesame chicken recipe is quick, crispy, and packed with flavor. Golden chicken pieces are tossed in a sticky, sweet sesame glaze for the perfect takeout-style dinner — ready in 35 minutes.

  • 1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs, cut into chunks

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce (optional)

  • 1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (for slurry)

  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

  • 2 green onions, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, toss chicken with beaten egg. Add cornstarch and mix until each piece is evenly coated.

  • Heat oil in a large skillet. Pan-fry the chicken until crisp and golden on all sides. Set aside.

  • Mix soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, vinegar, water, garlic, sesame oil, and optional dark soy in a bowl.

  • Wipe out the skillet. Add garlic and sauté briefly, then pour in the sauce.

  • Simmer for 2–3 minutes. Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens.

  • Return chicken to the pan and toss to coat.

  • Top with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot with rice or veggies.
